This placard is on the ceiling of the main entry way into the Cathedral of Quito Ecuador. The phrase is from an antiphon used in the Common of the Dedication of a Church. It means: “This place is holy wherein the priest prays for the failings and sins of the people.”

This liturgy was celebrated in Rome at the Church of St Sophia just after he was elected and confirmed in March 2011; the liturgy had to be celebrated outdoors, in front of the church, to accommodate the number of faithful in attendance.
